Shooting Instructions at The Fork

The Fork provides the perfect location to take a lesson from one of its on-staff, NSCA Level One, NRA Certified Shooting Instructors. Our shooting facilities include:

  • 14-station Large-Gauge Course (12 and 16 gauge)
  • 7-station Small-Gauge Course (20, 28 and 410 gauge)
  • Covered Five-Stand
  • 4-person, Twelve-trap, 65-foot Tower/Flurry
  • 100 yd Rifle Range and Table for Scope Sighting


Rate Schedule:

Our programs are individually tailored to suit you. We use the latest collaborative methods of instruction, and we ensure you receive the best possible service. Our clays are presented to represent the flight of game birds. No previous experience is necessary, and all equipment can be provided.

Lessons $75.00 per hour plus shells & clays
Gun Rental (discounted if staying at The Fork Lodge Bed & Breakfast) ½ day - $35.00,
full day - $50.00
Sporting Clays: 100 targets $45.00

Instructors

CHARLES COOPER
Charles is a Level 1 National Sporting Clays Association shooting instructor and working towards his Level 2 status, as well as a National Rifle Association Shot Gun Instructor and Chief Range Safety Officer. He is also a registered FITASC referee and holds a certification as a North Carolina Hunter Education Instructor. To round out his many qualifications he is a professional guide to our Dove hunts, Duck hunts, Quail hunts, Deer and Turkey Hunts.

ZEB BLAKE
Zeb is a also a Level 1 shooting instructor with the National Sporting Clays Association with his sights set on becoming a Level 2 in the near future. He is also a registered FITASC referee and holds a certification as a North Carolina Hunter Education Instructor. He, like Charles, is a professional guide to our Dove hunts, Duck hunts, Quail hunts, Deer and Turkey Hunts.

Hunter Education Course at The Fork
The Hunter Education Program of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission provides free hunter education courses at various locations throughout the year in every county.  More than a firearm safety course, instruction includes ethics and responsibility, conservation and wildlife management, wildlife identification, survival and first aid, specialty hunting and tree stand safety.

All first-time hunting license buyers must first successfully complete a hunter education course. There are no minimum age requirements, however, classes are taught at an eighth-grade level and tests must be completed without assistance. Courses are a minimum of 10 hours, taught by wildlife officers, hunter education specialists and certified volunteer instructors, and certification is accepted in every state and province in North America.
